Dahlgren Capital becomes new major shareholder in Westpay
Dahlgren Capital announces that it will become the new main owner of Westpay, a listed payment company. Westpay is a bank-independent provider of infrastructure and services for payments between merchants and consumers, serving customers across the Nordic region.
Dahlgren Capital is investing SEK 9 million in Westpay, which is currently listed on Nasdaq First North. This marks Dahlgren Capital's first entry as an active principal owner in a listed company, acquiring 20 percent of Westpay's shares.
"Westpay is in the middle of its change journey towards becoming a pure SaaS company. We already have a very concrete plan for value creation which we will deliver together with the management. With a strengthened capital structure and a higher rate of change, I look forward to a radical value acceleration in the company. We, together with the management, board, and other owners, are happy to now drive fast and profitable growth at high speed," says Peter Dahlgren, founder of Dahlgren Capital.
Westpay is undergoing a transformation to become a pure SaaS company, and Dahlgren Capital's investment is expected to support this transition.
Sten Karlsson, CEO of Westpay, welcomes the new partnership: "I welcome Dahlgren Capital as a new shareholder and long-term strategic investor in Westpay. We have a common understanding of how to create significant value in a tech-based SaaS company and I am convinced that our business will continue to develop positively."
Dahlgren Capital's investment strategy focuses on filling a gap in the Nordic Private Equity market, targeting smaller listed companies that have struggled despite good underlying fundamentals and long-term growth opportunities. The company believes these businesses are often misunderstood by the market and consequently undervalued.
"Our ambition is to fill an obvious gap in the Nordic Private Equity market, where many smaller listed companies have failed despite good underlying fundamentals and long-term growth opportunities. They are often deeply misunderstood by the market and thus undervalued," explains Peter Dahlgren.
As an active principal owner, Dahlgren Capital brings broad and deep capabilities, competence, and financial power to execute improved capital structures in portfolio companies and drive industry-specific value creation plans. The company's portfolio currently consists of nine privately owned companies focusing on fintech, cyber security, AI, and automation. With this investment in Westpay, Dahlgren Capital is expanding its strategy to invest in more listed smaller companies.
